Here are a few vehicle checks we
should make each week to reduce
the risk of breakdowns and
accidents.
You'll find a lot of helpful information in
your owner's handbook, such as what
fluids to use, how to change light
bulbs and what the tyre pressures
should be.
Check to make sure your head lights
and tail/rear lights are working. Turn
the ignition key so that the ignition
lights come on the dash panel, then
turn the lights switch onto the
headlight position. Walk around the
car to ensure that there are two side
lights, two head lights, two tail lights
and that the rear licence plate is
illuminated.
Whilst we are checking the headlights are working, switch on the full, main or high beam lights to test them.
A blue light comes on the dash to remind us that they are on.
Make sure the windscreen washers work. In the Fiesta you would squeeze the wiper stalk towards the steering wheel.
Familiarise yourself with the heater controls and make sure you know how to demist the screen and back window. New Fords have
electric-heated front seats.
If when you switch on the engine the ABS warning light remains on, the Anti-lock braking system may not operate correctly when needed.
This is not a terminal fault and does not make the car unsafe to use, but you should get the problem looked at as soon as possible.
